This haunting score ties in beautifully with the spirit of the Japanese animated film Ghost in the Shell, based on the books from Shirow Masamune. Composer Kenji Kawai serves up a chilled platter of deep drums, gongs, shakers, bells, female vocals, shimmering keyboards, and vaporous ambience. Certainly this song breaks the spell the rest of the album has cast on listeners, and this overly sweet piece of candy seems very much out of place (indeed, the CD producers list this as a "bonus track").

All-in-all, Kenji Kawai’s soundtrack to Ghost in the Shell is a beautiful work that complements a classic film. As a standalone piece though, it falters in enough areas to provide apprehension when regarding it with the same lens of undying love that its accompanying film has been relishing in since 1995. Never had a chance to see this film. The soundtrack is awesome, though. Digging: Gustav Mahler - Symphony No. 9. GhandhiLion January 20th 2019.

This is a magnificent soundtrack. It's so slow, methodical and very deliberate. This is among the music that really opened my mind to what music could be when I was younger. I especially like the tracks Nightstalker and Floating Museum.
Nakora
Very good, clean pressing. Minimal to no surface noise and good fidelity and dynamics. Definitely recommended if you're looking for a copy of this classic soundtrack.
Naktilar
Mine sounds great, very pleased. Pretty minimal surface noise which is good for the quieter passages, good presentation with textured sleeve, and it even came with a poly-lined paper sleeve.

does anyone else have a spot of glue on the 7 inch? >:(
Mala
Excellent quality pressing from WRWTFWW, as always. I'm a huge fan of their work now.
Moogugore
Yes, sound quality of this pressing is awesome. Neither pops nor noise even inbetween tracks. Basses sounds deep. No off-centered hole. Just the print quality of the poster is ugly, aliasing and poor definition.
Mamuro
I also have the original Japanese CD and I agree 100% with user MatteoL, the image on the front cover is a bad print with very inaccurate colors! The simple release has better quality but still again way lower than the CD. Also the back cover is extremely disappointing with the lack of CD's artwork and wrong info about Kawai playing all the instruments...
HappyLove
The visual used here were mandatory and the source provided despite all efforts were the files used for the '95 CD version, a 300 dpi 12cm x 12cm print film, to use for a 30cm x 30cm - considering this, the result is pretty good.
Ximinon
won't the misprinted obi be worth more :)
betelgeuze
Just to piggy back on what everyone else is saying, this really is an outstanding pressing. I bought this on a lark because I found a copy on here for $27. I'm so glad I snagged it. It sounds really awesome, and the pressing is very, very quiet (a must for this type of minimal yet brooding music). Grab this if you're a fan, or just grab it if you're into high quality and good sounding pressings.RIYL: Audiophile pressings, ambient music, soundtracks

Do the fine people of WRWTFWW plan on rectifying the misprinted obi strip debacle? This is the most expensive retail price I've seen for a 2xLP and surely customers deserve the finished article when paying such a high price.
Vrion
Finally had a reply and a new obi-strip will be sent out as a replacement.
Alsalar
I messaged them 3 weeks ago about this and still no reply..
Ungall
No, I am reaching out to them here, on Discogs, where I know they are an active part of the Discogs community.
Skillet
Why don't you just email them? I'm genuinely curious. Have you tried reaching out?
Nalmetus
This is my first over short review of any music. Why? Most the time I just simply have better things to do. Why this time was different? Two things. This just fantastic piece of music and there are only four LP releases out there (well... actually three if you discount other release by WRWTFWR) all of them unofficial. Now about record it self. Before buying it I had great reservations about quality of it. Is "We Release Whatever The Fuck We Want Records" equals "We Release Whatever The Fuck We Want Records With Whatever Fucking Quality We What". The devil keep saying do it!, do it!... so I did. Flynn.exe wrote about repeating hiss sound. Same here so it looks like whole pressing has it but it isn't so bad. It's mostly noticeable because of nature of this soundtrack which is very dynamic (long quiet passages or even silence followed by very loud sounds). Background hiss level is surprisingly very low. That's about it about technical side. Now comes the question why do You buy vinyl records? For me it's mostly about "vinyl sound" all other considerations are secondary. My first hearing of this LP was little bit disappointing. I did sound like fine but there was nothing "vinyl" about it except background hiss and repeating hiss sound mentioned before. On second hearing I always try to play in parallel with CD or FLAC source so I can do live compare. It confirmed my impression after first hearing. It sounds like CD. No difference in stereo base, the loud, deep "tom" sound present on tracks 1 and 2 IMO should have this "slow and deep" vinyl sound. It doesn't. Buy or not to buy that is the question. My answer is this. If You really like this soundtrack and can afford buying it (it isn't worth more than 20 euros IMO) without latter regretting it (like "damn, I could have bought vinyl X instead of this now I don't have the money) than do it otherwise it's not worth it especially if You have CD release.
Mr.Bean
It's not unofficial, the music was licensed properly. My copy has no hiss, and the sound quality is quite good IMO. Listened to it three times this weekend while reading and loved it.
Vizuru
A very cool release! Nice jacket, nice 24 page booklet. And it sounds very good too!Ordered at Amazon DE for 33 euro's. Other websites are ridiculously expensive with prices of over 40 pounds. Look around a bit and you can find it cheaper.I'm also curious as to how many of these were pressed. It's still for sale everywhere so my guess it's 2000 at least.
Bukelv
What means »Limited Edition«? There are no facts about the number of copys?
Dogrel
Great edition. Price was high, but the sound is really good and clear.
Mora
Really love this album and this pressing sounds great! Although, I received my copy from amazon and it had a repeating hiss that sounded every rotation during the first few tracks of side 1- I got a replacement and when it came it did the same thing! (Although only through track 2 of side 1 this time, for both of these the rest of the record played fine) I didn't return the 2nd as I do really want a copy of this LP and I guess I can live with it. A bit disappointed though. (My other LPs dont do this - so I doubt it is my equipment. But if you think it may be, please message me!)
Ral
specblis I would say over 50% of the records I've received directly from Amazon (excluding private sellers) have arrived in poor condition - making noise on every rotation like you said / being warped from improper storage and/or shipping method. They are always good with returns but they are fucking terrible at selling records. Haha ok. This was the first record I'd ever bought from amazon and from this I guess it's also my last.

Amerikan_Volga
extremely happy with this release. the bonuses are worth the £40 in my opinion, especially with the free poster included. audio quality is flawless on my records and the booklet included informative about the work that went behind the first gits movie. expanded my appreciation for it.
Kabei
WRWTFWW added a poster as a thank you for the late release "To thank you for your patience, you will receive a free poster with the record - hope you like it."I was hoping for something GITS related but it was a "I want to believe in whatever the fuck I want" X-files poster. Still unsure if I'm disappointed but it was free so, whatever...
Bolv
You mentioned a poster, where were you able to obtain this release with a bonus poster?
Ceroelyu
Superb pressing, great mastering, the sound is very tense and tangible. The booklet adds appreciation for the work that went into this masterful soundtrack.
I'm a Russian Occupant
I'm super happy with my copy. Amazing dynamics and the sound is ridiculously clear. Also the booklet is very interesting, not least because of the Kawai track commentary.
Ferri - My name
The image on the front sleeve is printed very badly, IMHO. I have the original japanese CD and the image is way better: this vinyl print seems taken from a low-quality scan
Jelar
Excellent pressing and I think the overall package is really great. The music itself is beautiful - never realized the care that was put into the recording and production before. Soundstage and dynamics are wonderful.
sunrise bird
I thought We Release WTF We Want were taking the piss putting this out at £40 for a single album with a few gimmicks and I still do. It is a good quality of press and nice package of a great soundtrack but I can't really see anything but greed making this more than double what you would expect it to cost.
Bys
There are 2 versions, one single LP, and one with an extra one-sided7" (the J-Pop track), 24 pages 12" booklet in english, obi and hotfoil - I guess this last one is the £40 version you talk about - pressing is the same on both releases.
Chilele
had a little surface noise at the beginning but nothing major of note to report the book is really worth it the notes are great and detailed.
Dikus
Can anyone give me a review of the pressing quality?!
BoberMod
Second that. Although pressing itself is quite low on the level. Anyone knows if this is "due" to DMM?
Nawenadet
Overall very good but not the quietest pressing during the quiet parts (not really noticeable unless you're listening through headphones) or it could be my turntable is too analytical or set up wrong
Samugul
Pressing quality is perfect, No noises, good sound, great cover!
Azago
It's a great movie soundtrack. The sound is addictive, love it
Xlisiahal
Hope the new LP isn't just the OST for the forthcoming live action abomination. Scarlett Johansson is an appalling choice.
Dellevar
Official quality reissue with extended liner notes coming out end of march.

Anyone if this release was official? I can't find it on here:http://www.juno.co.uk/products/kenji-kawai-ghost-in-the-shell-soundtrack/571335-01/
Goldfury
And if Juno now says "The page you requested could not be found on our server." it most probably means it was a counterfeit.
Mpapa
It is very simple, all vinyl copies for sale as for today are counterfeit.
Gosar
Official quality reissue with extended liner notes coming out soon.

Curious about how Milan will handle this as their releases are okay-ish - sort of budget Death Waltz releases.
Dianantrius
akira is also being officially reissued very soon. . .
Gavikelv
smart... can you have a word and ask them to sort an official vinyl reissue of the akira symphonic suite while they're at it ;)thanks for the info
Whilingudw
I've been told by a Sony (France) employee that this will be re-issued from the original audio sources on an swiss (?!) label by the end of this year.
net rider
have you got any further details on this reissue mate?
Bremar
Agree with the previous comments. Sounds great. Huge drums and a pretty crisp high end. Pressing isn't the quietest I've heard but the noise doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the album. Would love an official release but I'll settle for this.
ᴜɴɪᴄᴏʀɴ
The vinyl does carry a little more background noise than usual records. Through headphones you can also hear a slight analog buzz in the background. The soundtrack has a lot of really quiet parts which makes it tough for vinyl mastering. So if you want clean sound and optimal headphones experience better stick with the CD. Apart from that the sound mix is really awesome. Seems they put a little more emphasise and compression on the low ends. The drums are just - wow! It sounds really powerful and well-balanced. Will probably blow you away on a big sound system. They also got the deep mid range cleanly transferred to vinyl. So no complains on the mastering. The actual pressing cound have been better. Still glad this is finally out on vinyl after 20 years. No idea why Sony never thought this was a good idea to just do themselves.
Fearlesshunter
Blown away by how great this sounds. Deep bass and crisp bells on the opening track erased all my fears. I'd prefer an official release, but you can't go wrong with this bootleg.
Jairani
For those of you wondering about sound quality of this release, I can say it sounds great! I was expecting a lot of surface noise, flat sound and an off center pressing, but am very happy to report that it (at least my copy) suffer from none of those issues.
Brakree
Yes, I can confirm the audio quality is good.
Balladolbine
lots of background noise on mine... many pops and clicks too, just like a VG/VG+ record. Some of my 60's records are far less noisy than this one. I bought my copy mint ans sealed.... That said, very nice music :)
Zbr
Sounds good to me.
