As controlled as their self-titled debut was loose, War's sophomore effort, All Day Music, appearing a little over six months later in November 1971, was packed with subtly understated grooves. A hit with the fans, the LP peaked in the Top Ten, ultimately spending a massive 39 weeks on the charts.

album Eric Burdon Declares "War". The album's best known track, "Spill the Wine", was a hit and launched the band's career. 1970s: Height of popularity. War (1971) met with only modest success, but later that year, the band released All Day Music which included the singles "All Day Music" and "Slippin' into Darkness". The latter single sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc by the . In 1972 they released The World Is a Ghetto which was even more successful.

Recorded at Wally Heider Recording, S.F. & L.A. / Crystal Studio, L.A. and on location with the Far Out remote unit."Baby Brother" was recorded live June 30, 1971 at the United Artists $0.99 Spectacular, Hollywood Bowl. For a dollar, audiences saw War perform along with Canned Heat, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Sugarloaf; such luminaries as Ike and Tina Turner and Bobby Womack joined in for a final jam. Not a bad deal.
