Slave Ambient is the second studio album by American indie rock band The War on Drugs, released on August 16, 2011, on Secretly Canadian. Recorded over three years, Slave Ambient is the final release to feature contributions from founding guitarist Kurt Vile and drummer Mike Zanghi, and the first to feature drummer Steven Urgo. The album was preceded by the EP, Future Weather, in 2010.

Side 1 is what you'll find on the CD/LP versions of Slave Ambient, and Side 2 is over 30 minutes of all-new stuff with a more ambient sound. 200 copies, red cassettes. 른 버전(8개 중5개) 모두 보기. 카탈로그 번호. 아티스트.

Slave Ambient ‎(CD, Album). Hostess Entertainment Unlimited. I still prefer Lost in the Dream, which is a modern classic in my opinion, but Slave Ambient is a quality piece of modern rock.

Slave Ambient is the second album from The War on Drugs. It’s the last album featuring founding guitarist Kurt Vile, before he left to pursue a solo career. Slave Ambient Q&A. the art on their second album Future Weather. On the one hand, there's still a sense of world-weary wisdom and lost Americana as such at work from the start, as the extended breakdown toward the end of "Best Night" demonstrates, all silvery guitar jamming and sparkling piano following from Adam Granduciel's reedy singing

Granduciel has done it again, better than before: Slave Ambient, their proper second album, is a brilliant 47 minute sprawl of rock n roll, conceptualized with a sense of adventure and captured with seasons of bravado.

The lineup underwent several changes, and by the end of 2008, Kurt Vile, Charlie Hall, and Kyle Lloyd had all exited the group. At that time Granduciel and Hartley were joined by drummer Mike Zanghi, whom Granduciel also played with in Kurt Vile's backing band, the Violators. After recording much of the band's forthcoming studio album, Slave Ambient, Zanghi departed from the band in 2010. Drummer Steven Urgo subsequently joined the band, with keyboardist Robbie Bennett also joining at around this time  .

The War on Drugs frontman Adam Granduciel is all of these things on Slave Ambient, the Philly outfit's second full-length release. Given these professed feelings of restlessness and uneasiness, it's no surprise the band's hypno-roots-rock is all about forward motion and momentum, favoring steady, locomotive rhythms that rarely pause or waver - elements that reinforce Granduciel's efforts to make his problems disappear in the rearview mirror.

This is such a fantastic album. This is such a fantastic album.
Reemiel
Why the hell did they do this at 45 RPM? To be annoying? To stand out? It's stupid.
Taulkree
I agree that this release is far superior to the original release. My records were also flat.
Uthergo
This is the least essential piece of The War on Drugs' catalog, and to make matters worse, the pressing is poor. Secretly Canadian is pretty reliable, but this is a miss. And better versions of many of these songs can be found on the Future Weather EP (although you might want to be careful with that pressing as well). Thankfully, the rest of the band's LPs sound terrific on vinyl.

I'm really pleased with the way this vinyl sounds actually. I'm reading some complaints about the "muddiness" or perceived lack of clarity in the music... I suspect the artist was going for a slight spacey, hazy, atmospheric vibe here... I believe the pressing is accurate to the production intent. It's also telling that this plays at 45RPM-- the sound quality is meant to be emphasized here, otherwise why they bother spreading out a 47-minute album over two records? The only issue I encountered was the needle jumps right out of the run-out groove onto the center label on side C! Never had that happen before.

I bought my copy from the band at a gig when they were touring for "Lost in the Dream". I have had it for a couple of years and finally played it for the first time today. (I did a 24/96 recording of it) I also have the CD copy and have listened to that many times. I find my copy of this LP to sound very nice. Some of the complaints below lead me to think a few may not appreciate the different style this band has. I think the mix is correct for this album, with the vocals placed exactly how they want them to be. My copy is not off-center or warped and it sounds great. If you are thinking of picking up this 2 LP 45 RPM pressing I am going to encourage you to do so. I will admit to believing it is possible that some people got poor copies. I just want to say they are not all bad, as my copy is fine.
Mogelv
To say this pressing is "bad" is not accurate. My version is unlistenable. I mean every song on my records as well. It sounds like it is being played with a weight sitting on the record making it play in slow motion. I really wish I could find a half way decent version.
Ger
Play it at the correct speed then listen to how it sounds. It's a 45. C'mon people.
Hulbine
First records received badly warped. VMP sent a new one and that was much better. Nice and flat. Sound-wise a big step up from the original SC pressing which wasn't so nice. Much better soundstage on this, the "ambient" aspects of the record comes much better off than before.
Burirus
Nice job by VMP cleaning this one up. Sounds great. Recommend.
Exellent
Does anyone know whether this pressing has overcome the deficiencies of the Secretly pressing from 2011? That was badly warped, sounded flat (although some of it down to the sound of the mix I think) and was off center too. Really hope this VMP betters it, then I'll take the plunge.
Early Waffle
I never had a copy of the 2011 pressing but the copy I've received from VMP is not warped and is definitely not flat sounding. The dynamic range is quite good. Highly recommended if you're a VMP member.
Xar
This album sounds killer - still available at VMP's website. Get it while you can!
Rainshaper
I have to add my dissapointment with this LP, not the music, but the pressing. I had to send back the first copy because it was off center and warped (most notably on disc 1). I recieved a 2nd copy and it's the exact same issue.
Flas
My copy sounds really really bad! No joy in listening to it, despite the fact that it is an amazing album.I prefer the digital version.
Bys
I like this album a lot. I still prefer Lost in the Dream, which is a modern classic in my opinion, but Slave Ambient is a quality piece of modern rock. There's nothing wrong with my pressing, in fact it sounds great! But, I can understand other reviewers thoughts on the mix as it does set the vocal back within the sound stage.
Carrot
I'd probably give this album 3/5 stars. At first it's quite good, but if you listen to more than three tracks at a time, they all run together. Every song sounds the same. The vocals are mixed pretty low and the singing is rather incoherent. That tells me he isn't confident enough in the lyrics to sing and mix them clearly.
fire dancer
Got a defective record as well. I contacted Secretly Canadian and they had another one in the mail in like 12 hours. To be fair to them, this is the first defective vinyl I've ever experienced. Remember when Vespertine shipped with flaws in all the discs?
Shalinrad
This has got to be in the top 5 worst modern vinyl pressings I've had the misfortune of hearing. Avoid. Yes, it's off center. But in addition, mastering is poor, vocals are recessed, many primary instrumental parts are nearly inaudible... it's a mess. So bad I thought my cantilever had been damaged. A shame because it's a great record. Don't get how Secretly Canadian can be ok putting trash out into the market.
Ballalune
My copy sounds great, sorry to hear that some are less than happy with it.
JoldGold
The sound on this pressing is horrible. It's all compressed and muddy. Can't even listen to it.
Shaktiktilar
Yup, my first copy of Lost in the Dream was pressed off center, had to buy another one. My copy of Slave Ambient is fairly warped. Get your shit together Secretly Canadian and use better pressing plants.
Anayajurus
There were clearly more than 75 red copies pressed. My understanding is that 75 were sold through mailorder, but the label also sent hundreds of red copies to retail shops as well. I bought mine at Other Music in NYC. Pressing size was probably closer to 500 or 1,000.
Kann
I bought mine back then at an indie record shop in Vienna, Austria.Strange how far these things can go :) Anyhow, I also think that there must have been at least 500 of these pressed. The sound on this release is wonderful btw - although I rarely play it these days after finding out I own quite a rarity here...
Zeus Wooden
Sounds great but is pressed off center. I'm on my third copy and all of them have my tonearm swaying madly back and forth a half inch in each direction. Great album and the sound quality is there for sure, just a shame about the careless press operator.
Visonima
Sounds great
Banal
Mine is off center and warped. It sounds okay, considering.

War On Drugs may like to paint themselves into a corner, viewing themselves as some sort of down and out neo-psychedelic, dream-pop losers, stoned on really good weed, washing exotic textures that swirl like smoke from the stage out across the upturned faces, settling on and laying waste to those at the back of the room, while raising the temperature ‘til everyone is moving as one ... leaving you with nothing to do but hold your breath, slip to the bottom of the pool, then push yourself back to the surface just long enough to gain a breath of pure air before you smile, surrender to the dancing waters, and float off into the night sky.The album’s layered with songs filled with shifting murkiness, and drenched with a dose of low hanging atmospheric clouds that at times will sound more than vaguely familiar, though placing this vague sensation will spin your head around, and by the time you’ve had the thought it’s gone, swept up through the ceiling, leaving you standing in awe as one song rolls relentlessly into another creating a hazy jam of sheer delight ... a stoner’s dreams come true.Or I could just say that the band’s from Philadelphia, play all the clubs that exist in the magical world of sparks below the elevated trolly line, playing to the converted, and those seeking the divine light of inspiration.***Don't go thinking there's anything wrong with your turntable as you drop these gems onto the platter, they were stunningly recorded at 45 rpms.
Shakagul
This album is really good, unfortunately it sounds like crap.prob bad mastering.
Ckelond
Agreed. Sounds like it was mastered from a cd.
