When an exceptional house artist album arrives, it inevitably zooms to the top of the barrel with bends-inducing speed, leaving a trail of okay-to-weak LPs in its wake. Lesser-known gems are, however, very much out there. We’ve checked our respective record shelves, surveyed heads (Jerome Derradji and Mr Beatnick among them), and pulled together a list of excellent – and, in some cases, out-and-out classic – house albums you’re unlikely to have encountered, at least from start-to-finish. For sure, you don’t have to ferret too far through the Nu Groove catalogue to find House Rhythms, but, given its obvious calibre, Konders’ 1990 mini-album is still heard far too infrequently. Best known as a dancehall and ragga DJ, Konders put out a smattering of deep, sunbaked house releases at the turn of the 1990s.

It's one of those vinyls I'll never sell, I equate Nervous Acid to the time around 3-4 AM when shit was gonna get seriously underground until sunrise, no more shrieking divas ;0) Then in the morning.. en route to The End Up.
Brannylv
What are "vinyls'? The plural of vinyl is vinyl.
Joony
Yes! You would've had to have been there to know.

I'm vaguely convinced that a few of the tracks on this release were played in late 1989 not only on the London pirate radio stations of the day but also at a few parties I went to aswell. Nervous Acid, Version and Let There Be House in particular were being cained from late that year. Let There Be House is my least favourite due to the irritatingly repetitive Chuck Roberts vocal, which to be fair I was never very fond of. It's a shame really as it's a quite decent warehouse track. As others have already explained very eloquently, Nervous Acid is a one of a kind, deep, hypnotic, trippy, sinister acid house classic. One of my favourites without question.Version is just sublime pure stripped down house music, unmistakably late 1980s New York House or Deep House in fashion, fit both for dodgy basement type clubs where swinging a cat would not be advisable to behemoth cavernous warehouses. Try listening to this on a quality gargantuan sound system and you'll hear what I mean. Still an all round timeless release in any case.

Don't buy this copy. The pressing is unusably low volume.

I'm surprised about the number of people who have this, I guess at those times release were pressed by 3000 copies at least I guess.

A great ep no doubt but the standout has to be Nervous acid I remember many bought it for this track , the poem was up there and still is also a great track a great ep from 1990
Dorizius
almost certainly a bootleg - bought it when it came out, compared it with the original, but had much lower recording volume

I bought a copy of this bad boy recently mainly for "nervous acid". The recording of "nervous acid" on my copy is quite low compared to the other tunes. Does anyone else have the same issue with their copy?
Not-the-Same
18 minutes of music on one side and its the last track on the side , which will sound the worse as the grooves are closer together .

Absolute massive release. Could have easily been broken down into 4 still great 12".They just don't make them like this anymore. Not sure about the obsession for Nervous Acid though. It's a very good track, but one of my least favorites here.Let there be house and The Poem are, in my opinion, far better.Frankie Bones played Let there be house and the Poem almost back to back in the UK at the Hacienda January 27, 1990, so this must have come right around the new year.

Definitely one of the strongest / must have releases on the NuGroove label. Who can forget the first time they heard that intro and bassline? Peter Daou's keyboard work is absolutely stunning and just takes you into deep house heaven. 10/10

The real hero (or genius as some may say) on this record is Peter Daou, he engineered and played keys on so many classic Nu Groove records. In my opinion he is one of the unsung heroes of house and doesnt get the credit he rightly deserves.
Banal
He's nothing more than a propagandist for the Democratic party. A shill.
Livina
That's the most insane thing I've read all day! Thanks for the info.

this masterpiece of an ep contains one of the best deep house grooves ever, "massai women".the original 1990 release was very rare, for about 8 years, there are bootlegs out but the recordingvolume of those is much lower.

In 1990, Mr. Konders, all-round reggae and house producer released a landmark in the realm of house music. "House Rhythms" is not just a stop-over in time, but a timeless masterpiece. While digging in the crates and finding more releases from back then my conclusion is that these times gave birth to lots of early work that still sounds contemporary today. On this ep, there are 3 track that need more attention: 1. the poem, addressing in the intro apartheid and riots between races. Besides this social commitment, a bassline kicks in, which is more than essential. It builds and flutes start emotionally. 2. nervous acid, 303 acid lines, great percussion and drum-lines lead to a killer acid track. A yellow jersey excercise. 3. let there be house, a bassline a la Lil' Louis, great piano loops and offcourse Mr. Jack's vocals. ESSENTIAL STUFF: a must have for vinyl junkies in this genre
Original
My favorite release on Nu Groove, this is classic acid house. "Nervous Acid" is perfectly named; dark, minimal, but with a strong sense of groove. This is a must have!
